Una McAlinden, Executive Director of ArtsEd Washington, has been honored with the Washington Art Educator Association Tribute Award, and The Advancement of Arts Education in Washington State Award. She has served on the Network Leadership Committee for the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network, including co-chairing its Advocacy Committee, and was a founding Board member of Leadership Eastside. She currently serves ex officio on the Board of the Washington State Arts Alliance.
Gary Kipp, Executive Director, Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP)
After serving as a high school principal for 20 years, Gary Kipp moved into the central office as an assistant superintendent for 2 years, before retiring and taking the position as Executive Director of the Association of Washington School Principals in 2003. In his present role, Gary is active at both the state and national levels in improving leadership in Washington schools.
Laura Ploudre, Principal, Parkwood Elementary, WA
Laura Ploudre is Principal of Parkwood Elementary in the Shoreline School District, bordering the city of Seattle to the north. She has been an elementary principal for 14 years, including 11 years at Parkwood. During her tenure at Parkwood, the staff has been committed to building a rigorous and sustainable arts program, including instruction in music, theatre, dance and visual arts. From 2005-2007, the entire Parkwood staff participated in a comprehensive professional development program called Arts Impact, resulting in consistent, standards based arts instruction school wide, along with the development of a K-6 curriculum in visual arts, theatre and dance that teachers continue to use at the present time. In the past two years, Laura has enjoyed acting as a school arts coach with the ArtsEd WA Principal Arts Leadership program.
Doug Poage, Principal, Carnation Elementary School, WA
Doug Poage taught elementary school for 11 years in nearly every grade before becoming the principal of Carnation Elementary School in the Riverview School District in 2001. When he first came to this rural King County school in 2001, the arts program was nearly non-existent; now, over 90% of the teachers at Carnation Elementary have had extensive training from Arts Impact on how to integrate the arts into their regular curriculum and, in 2011, the school was one of only three schools in the state awarded the first ever “School of Excellence in Arts Education” from ArtsEd Washington, AWSP and the John F. Kennedy Center. Doug has served as a board member for ArtsEd Washington (Washington Alliance for the Arts) and currently serves as a board member of the Cascade Community Theatre in Duvall/Carnation, where he enjoys directing, producing and acting in his spare time.
