JOIN US to Recognize Our 2014 Award Winners:
Most Reverend Joseph F. Donnelly Awards
Individual - Father Manship's tireless efforts on behalf of his own parishioners
and the larger Hispanic community have placed him in the line of fire
on a number of controversial issues that are of critical local concern.
A strong advocate for social justice, Father Manship acts and leads
in the public square, for the common good, and especially for the
poor and vulnerable.
Organization -
Sacred Heart Parish Community, Southbury
Rev. Joseph Donnelly, Pastor
The faith community of Sacred Heart Parish is motivated by the
principles of justice and charity, and honors the Catholic vision
of social justice. The accomplishments of the parish can be
seen internally, with the large number of parish volunteers and
ministries, as well as externally by the thousands of people the
parish has helped through its efforts.
Dr. Charlie Schlegel Cooperative Parish Sharing Award
St. Rose of Lima Parish, New Haven
Rev. James Manship, Pastor
We commend the community of St. Rose of Lima for their work to provide
an annual summer program for children, addressing the need for summer
enrichment and incorporating a teen “immersion” experience. Teens
from St. Rose and from East Catholic High School in Manchester spend
the week working together to provide religious education and
recreational activities for the children each morning. In the afternoon
and evening they share cross-cultural activities in New Haven, building
new relationships and developing sensitivities to the challenges and
richness of urban life.
