OPC Award Winners Share Their Stories: The Kim Wall Award

Please join the OPC for a discussion with this year’s winners of the Kim Wall Award, members of the New York Times team that produced "The Russia Tapes: Health Care and Civilians Under Attack in Syria."

The program will include Malachy Browne, senior producer, Christiaan Triebert, video journalist, Evan Hill, video journalist, Whitney Hurst, senior producer, and Dmitriy Khavin, senior video editor. The Kim Wall Award honors the best story or series of stories on international affairs using creative and dynamic digital storytelling techniques.

The moderator will be Louise Roug, executive editor, international at HuffPost.

Judges for the award said: "For more than a year, fighter jets have bombed scores of civilian targets in Syria, including underground hospitals and refugee camps, in clear violation of international law. The New York Times team approached this under-covered story with innovative use of digital tools – not just to enhance the storytelling but to report the story itself. In so doing, the journalists proved conclusively that Russia was behind the bombings. The Times’ forensic visual presentation is masterfully done — and a reminder that investigative journalism reaches corners of the world that might otherwise be ignored. The reporting was stellar, the evidence it uncovered compelling and persuasive, and this extraordinary body of work truly deserves the OPC Kim Wall Award."
