NEARA was Founded in 1964 to promote research into the origins and functions  of American lithic features by searching, documenting, and encouraging their    protection & preservation. Some of these features include stone chambers, stone    piles, stone walls, stone circles, propped boulders, petroglyphs, and stone or    earthen mounds.

WHAT DO NEARA MEMBERS DO?

NEARA Members Participate in the search and discovery of new sites and enjoy    the challenge of better understanding these sites through the lenses of history,    geography, archaeology, and anthropology as well as fields such as deed research,  archaeoastronomy, and epigraphy. Many members volunteer their time and skills to  the various research and site dating projects that are currently underway.

NEARA Members Attend annual Spring and Fall conferences where they   immerse themselves in awe inspiring presentations by talented researchers both    professional and amateur, attend field trips to new and intriguing sites, and form    personal connections with other members whose interests parallel their own.

NEARA Members Receive the NEARA JOURNAL which supplies them with    fascinating articles and research to ponder and the NEARA TRANSIT, a newsletter  which keeps them posted on the latest news, activities, and field trips. Both are    published twice yearly.

NEARA Members Search the Online Site Database and browse through digital    versions of every Journal & Transit going back to the first volumes. They also    purchase or borrow books online from the extensive collection of research books    located at the NEARA Library & Archives in Nashua NH.

THESE ARE ALL GREAT REASONS TO BE A PART OF OUR        NEARA COMMUNITY OF ANTIQUARIANS!
