Get an update on Sunrise Center's exciting Save Our Bay, Save Our Ocean project in cooperation with Sea Stewards with David McGuire and Lori Grace. Become a stakeholder in creating the first marine-protected area in the SF Bay and contribute to saving the lives of thousands of breeding fish & marine mammals.

 Save Our Bay, Save Our Ocean will be presenting our exciting, new membership program so that you can have fun along with us creating this protected marine area and getting to know your fellow associates and volunteers in the process.

Sea Stewards joins Sea Shepherds efforts to stop shark finning
David McGuire is a marine biologist and Emmy Award winning cinematographer. He is the founder and director of the non-profit  Sea Stewards. A Research Associate of the Department of Aquatic Biology at the California Academy of Sciences, David is conducting a shark research program that includes population studies, movements and fisheries impacts on the San Francisco Bay.  

As Captain, Dive Master and filmmaker, David has explored the world ocean on numerous sailing voyages producing media with an emphasis on shark conservation and ocean awareness.  David is the writer, producer and underwater cinematographer of several award winning documentaries and was the original sponsor of the California Shark Conservation Bill.

Minke Whale

Jonathan Stern, Ph.D., is a marine biologist widely recognized as the world's leading researcher of minke whales in the Northeast Pacific Ocean, and has conducted research on killer, pilot, fin, humpback and gray whales, as well as bottlenose dolphins. He served as the Conservation Chair for the National Board of Directors for the American Cetacean Society. He currently teaches in the Biology Department at San Francisco State University and is adjunct professor at Texas A&M University. An ecologist by training, he studies the role of marine predators in ocean ecosystems. Carol Keiper is a marine ecologist specializing in marine birds and mammals. She is a founding board member and researcher with Oikonos Ecosystem Knowledge, a non-profit organization, and has worked on seabird research and created outreach education activities on plastic pollution prevention for educators and communities. www.oikonos.org






LoriLori Grace has been involved in issues around ocean health, fish, turtle and marine mammal protection for over 30 years. She has worked with Michael Bailey on creating the UN ban on high seas international drift netting, Saving Japan Dolphins and The Cove movie.  
Lori has also worked with David McGuire on shark protection in general and has helped create the success of the California State Shark Fin Ban. She is also raising fish in her own backyard (backyard Aquaponics) as a way of reducing demand on wild caught fish.
