with Lori Grace, Don Huber, Robert Kremer,
Bob Streit and Larry Bragman
Lori Grace will be appearing together with some of the scientists that she has worked with who have discovered the very negative effects of the herbicide glyphosate (the main ingredient in Roundup) and of the even greater dangers of Roundup to human health and to the environment. She will describe some of the major attacks on scientists who discovered the negative effects of glyphosate and the calculated suppression of their research.
These scientists have agreed to come to Marin County to help citizens and officials look at other strategies to control Scotch broom and French broom in the Marin County Water District other than using large amounts of glyphosate, or any other herbicides, as a way of controlling weeds in the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD). Much to everyone’s surprise, glyphosate will actually increase fire danger in Marin. Use of glyphosate will also be a significant risk to human and animal health in Marin.
Concern about fire in Marin is the main reason that, last year, the Marin Grand Jury and, this year, the MMWD is considering using herbicide to kill Scotch broom and French broom in the MMWD. Unfortunately, use of glyphosate (Roundup) will cause large increases in Sudden Oak death, Oak wilt and “Scorch Diseases” in plants, which will increase the risk of fire in the MMWD. Lori and these scientists will discuss the nature of these risks and the value of a no herbicide, no pesticide strategy instead.
Bob Streit, BS in plant pathology, is an agronomist, crop consultant and owner of Central Iowa Agronomics. He specializes in looking at strategies for reducing toxic chemical residues left in soil after glyphosate exposure and reducing the number of toxic microorganisms that thrive in glyphosate-treated soils, like C. botulinum, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus, that produce the potent carcinogen afflatoxin.
Larry Bragman, attorney, has served on the Fairfax town council for eleven years and served two terms as mayor. As a town council member, he has taken a strong stand on pesticide spraying in the town of Fairfax and wants to make sure that pesticides are not used in the Marin Municipal Water District. He is a strong supporter of the noteworthy ordinance in Fairfax, which requires both residential and commercial ndighbors to give 48 hours posted notice of their intent to spray pesticides on Fairfax property. This ordinance was strongly attacked by both the state and pesticide companies, but has withstood the test of time and has been strongly supported by the town of Fairfax.
