As a memorial of the tenth anniversary of 9-11, the San Marcos 912 Patriots will sponsor an event on Sat. September 10^th, Honoring Our Heroes, Past, Present, Future. It will begin with a Parade at 9 A.M., followed by events at the Park Plaza Stage, San Marcos.

U.S. Army Command Sgt. Major Lawrence K. Wilson will be the Grand Marshall of the Parade and honored guest speaker.

Wilson has led combat troops throughout some of the most historic moments of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As the command sergeant major for 1st "Raider" Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, he saw his troops capture Saddam Hussein in December 2003.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with valor and 1 oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), the Army Commendation Medal (8th award), the Army Achievement Medal (5th award), and numerous ribbons. CSM Wilson was inducted into the USAREUR Sergeant Morales Club in 1984 and is an honorary member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.

His last assignment was in Iraq from November 2008 to September 2010 as the Multi National Forces-Iraq and United State Forces-Iraq Command Sergeant Major for over 150,000 service men and women, DoD civilians and contractors. He was the senior enlisted advisor to the Commanding General of all Forces in Iraq, General Ray Odierno, who has been nominated by President Barack Obama as the next Army Chief of Staff.

Currently, CSM Wilson continues to serve as a Command Sergeant Major at Fort Hood, Texas and is preparing for retirement after 35 years of service.
