Panelist 1 - Manuel Marchetti

Born and bred in the wine industry Manuel Marchetti is passionate about the never-ending search for balance and harmony. It is the driving force behind every aspect of Marcarini, from vineyard management to winemaking, right up to the final stage of the process, the consumer.

Marcarini was founded in the 1850s in the province of Cuneo. Marcarini currently has 42 acres under vine including several grand, historical crus whose Dolcetto vines are the oldest in Italy.  It was one of the very first wineries in the area to designate single vineyards on its labels

Panelist 2 - Matteo Sardagna Einaudi

Matteo Sardagna Einaudi is at the helm of Einaudi’s success in recent years. A lifetime connection to the countryside has given him the ability to represent the various nuances of the Barolo area.

Poderi Luigi Einaudi was founded in 1897 by Luigi Einaudi, who would later go on to be Italy’s first president.  The winery has 111 acres under vine. A unique aspect of the property is that it contains 13 farmhouses, and each farmhouse is responsible for the management of their land. By doing this Einaudi has assured that all of its vineyards receive hands-on attention to detail.

Panelist 3 - Elisa Fantino

Elisa Fantino jokingly calls the vineyards her “natural habitat” having grown up in them for so long, but this understanding of the land has given her the opportunity to speak about the love Conterno Fantino has for their work.

This classic Langhe winery, founded in 1982, testifies to the talent and vision of Claudio Conterno, vineyard manager and co-proprietor, and his friend and partner, Guido Fantino, who styles the wines. The winery’s initial nucleus is the cru Ginestra: a historical one for Barolo, documented as far back as the 1800s. Today, the property comprises 64 acres under vine.
