Boots on the Ground: Employment Consultant Community of Practice Seminar
In collaboration with the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Administration, Wise is pleased to announce the Boots on the Ground: Employment Consultant Community of Practice! Comprised of two sessions per week, this Community of Practice will offer hands on examples and opportunities to see innovative direct service from employment providers across the State of Washington. Tuesday seminars will occur each week from 9:30 to 11:30am PST, and Friday workshops will provide follow up conversation and activities based on the Tuesday content from 9:30 to 10:30am PST. These events are open to all and free of charge.
*Attending the Tuesday seminar is not required in order to participate in Friday's workshop, although you are encouraged to do so. Recordings of Tuesday's events will be made available the following Wednesday to those who could not attend. Register for the Friday workshop that corresponds with this event by visiting to the Wise Calendar (scheduled for Friday of that same week).

Join Ali Hawkinson and Nate Stephens of Work Opportunities for a discussion on building skills to help new and seasoned job developers alike jump back into development with both feet. Learn techniques to approach current employers, prospects and personal contacts in a relevant and courteous way, meeting community stakeholders where they’re at in the process of recovering from the year long pandemic. The future is within reach and it’s time to go get it!

- Email/Message scripts to send to employers, prospective employers and personal contacts
- Alternative ways to generate leads
- Worksheet/brainstorming tool for leads and contacts

Ali Hawkinson is an Employment Specialist III with Work Opportunities of Whatcom County, focusing primarily on job development and creating meaningful engagement in the community. She aspires to find customized jobs that are a good fit for her clients, while building lasting relationships with the employers in her community. Ali is an elected official, serving as a city council member, has created an Equity Advisory Committee for the city of Ferndale and is very active in the local music scene as a lyricist and vocalist (or at least was before the pandemic). Ali is also a self-proclaimed cat lady who has only has one cat. Ali loves sharing her knowledge and talent with others!

Nate Stephens is an Employment Specialist III with Work Opportunities of Whatcom County, focusing primarily on job development. He prides himself in providing high quality job placement services to a diverse case load. Nate has been working in the human services field for over 15 years, beginning in residential care before moving into the employment field 6 years ago. Nate is a die-hard NBA basketball fan and is expecting his first daughter in August, with his wife Haleigh.
