Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Specialization

This 5-month virtual course provides Employment Professionals the unique opportunity to learn how to be Positive Behavior Support Specialists for their agencies and others. Providers who complete this training are prepared to consult, train, and support other community-based providers with PBS principles.

This training provides students with foundations of Positive Behavior Support and practicum experiences to equip them to support their customers and other employment consultants in:  

  • Behavioral measurement and assessment to provide timely support to staff with behavioral support in worksite and community settings
  • Report writing to adapt or produce simple PBS plans specific to employment supports
  • Consultation skills to be available for follow-up to ensure success in implementing supports
  • Training skills to help build staff capacity
  • Ethical frameworks to understand scope of practice and how and when to ask for additional support

Student Time commitment for 5-month course:

  • Up to 22 hours of OnDemand content and live discussion
  • Up to 48 hours of hands-on practicum (time spent ON CASELOAD, during normal work hours)
  • Up to 10 hours of coaching from instructor (time spent ON CASELOAD, during normal work hours)
  • Textbook and online materials provided

8 Live Sessions: 10:00-11:20am PST

This course is limited to 10 people, on a first registered-first served basis. Anyone who registers for this course after it is full will be given priority for the second round starting in February 2023.

$5,500 per person - information on payment to be provided prior to the start of class. 

 

Shaun Wood, Senior Program Manager

Shaun is all about jobs! He’s a community developer and has worked to support people with disabilities since 2002. He continues to work in schools, people’s homes, and job sites, helping to build inclusive communities. Shaun is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and a certified Employment Specialist. He served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Eastern Europe, and obtained both his M.Ed. (Applied Behavior Analysis) and B.A. (Political Science/Human Rights) from the University of Washington. 

Shaun uses applied behavior analysis, emerging technology, reflective processes, and mentorship to drive employment outcomes. In his current role, he’s available to work in local communities across Washington State and beyond! He has active projects from Alaska to the southwestern U.S. and eastern Canada. Shaun loves languages, and is fluent in Bulgarian with experience in French, Macedonian, Turkish, and Romani (he’s currently studying Spanish). When he isn’t working, he likes to garden, brew espresso, stare into his aquariums, and jog circles around his adopted hometown of Burien, Washington.
