JASA Three-day Visit to New Orleans, LA

 
November 17-19, 2017

Preliminary Itinerary as of August 20, 2017
Details subject to change, but we will give you a definite itinerary as the date approaches.

Friday, November 17
Afternoon:  Arrive New Orleans, settle into hotel
5-6:00pm:  View Title exhibition at NOMA (optional)
6:30pm:  Lecture by Joe Earle: "Japanese Ceramics Tomorrow" in NOMA's Stern Auditorium

8:30pm:  Dinner

JASA members will dine together in a private room.  There will be a set three course meal that includes one glass of wine (dinner is included in the trip fee).

Saturday, November 18
Morning: Breakfast on your own in the French Quarter
Members drive to Gitters by taxi or Uber
11:30am: Brunch at the Gitter-Yelen residence with viewing of the collection 
2:30 - 5:00pm: Those who wish are invited to return to the Museum where there will be gallery tours, artists talks, and time to visit NOMA's Sculpture Garden.Kurt, Alice, and Joe (and Lisa McCord, if needed) will be available to walk people through the ceramics exhibition. 

We will also have on view the exhibition Personalities in Clay: American Studio Ceramics from the Collection of E. John Bullard (NOMA's former director). John and Kurt went on many collecting trips together, and this would be a wonderful opportunity to walk through two amazing collections with the collectors - who are great friends and have many wonderful stories to share.

Also--JASA should know that Saturday, Nov. 18th is the first public day for Prospect 4, an international contemporary art triennial (www.prospectneworleans.org). NOMA will be hosting artists talks from 2-4.The artists are: Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Alexis Esquivel, David L. Petros, Saviera Simmons, and Gauri Gill and Rajesh Vangad. Suffice 
it to say, there will be a lot of contemporary art to see in the city!

We have reserved a block of rooms for JASA members at the Hampton Inn and Suites with a special group rate.

The block of guest rooms will be held for your exclusive use up to 10/17/2017.  All reservations must be guaranteed with a major credit card and must be made no later than 10/17/2017. Any requests received after 10/17/2017 will be handled on a space availability basis only. Remaining guest rooms are automatically released back to the hotel for general resale.

TRIP REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Reservations for this trip are required. Space is limited to 15. Those interested in attending should reserve by October 1. 

Trip fee:$200. The price includes four specially planned meals. This does not include airfare, hotel, or local transportation.
