North Regional Dinner Meeting

Practicing the Art of Geotechnical Engineering in a Scientific World?

Presented by: Kenneth Wittman

Owners’, developers’ and contractors’ expectations for geotechnical service providers often do not appropriately consider the complexity of the investigation and design. As we arrange professional liability for a large number of geotechnical firms, we have noticed some common issues in reported claims.  The focus of the presentation is discuss claim examples; the liability realities of providing services; and ideas about how to manage and mitigate risk.

Ken Wittman has been has been serving design and related professionals as an insurance broker for nearly 30 years, initially as majority owner and President of Crowell Insurance Agency and for the over 20 years as a Senior Vice President of Dealey Renton & Associates in Santa Ana, Ca.  Prior to becoming an insurance broker, Ken served in various insurance management positions including President of San Francisco Reinsurance Company, a Firemans’ Fund Company and as Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer of DPIC Companies in Monterey, CA.  He is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society; the Professional Liability Agents Network; is an affiliate member of the AIAOC; and for more than 20 years, a Director of The Architecture Foundation of Orange County.  In addition to supporting Dealey Renton’s clients with risk management advice and education, Ken has made numerous loss prevention education and risk management presentations to various local and national industry groups including ACEC, AIA, PLAN, and PLUS.
