SPECIAL PANELS

Graduated Income Tax: Illinois voters will go to the ballot box in November with the opportunity to amend the Constitution to allow for a graduated income tax that is being pushed by Governor JB Pritzker and labor unions. The Illinois business community is united in opposition to the $3.5 billion tax hike. Watch both sides square off in the most closely watched political issue in the 2020 election.

Energy: In 1997, Illinois deregulated the energy marketplace saving residents and businesses billions of dollars. The competitive market and our strong energy portfolio make Illinois a net energy exporter and a low-cost state. Policymakers are again considering major changes to the structure that could impact the cost and reliability for manufacturers. This panel will focus on pending legislative issues including zero carbon emission goals, support for nuclear plants, rate formula extension, the future of coal, and more.

Property Taxes: Illinois has the second highest property tax rates in the nation. Another blue ribbon commission has offered suggested recommendations for change while new Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi has unveiled a legislative plan that could require businesses to disclose substantial confidential information for assessment purposes that will further shift the property tax burden onto commercial and industrial taxpayers. Property taxes will be on the menu for this panel.
