If we must cancel this event, we will shift to remote learning JA programming. Your registration fee will pay for program materials and shipping costs. JA In A Day "Homeschool Edition"

When: Monday, March 29, 2020, 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM (Check-in opens at 8:30 AM / Check-out at 1:35 PM)

Where: Junior Achievement Headquarters Building - Fort Wayne

Who:  Homeschool students in Pre-K (ages 4 and 5) through 12th grade

Cost: Non-refundable fee of $5 per student, max fee $25 per family

Registration Deadline: Sunday, March 14, 2021 or until 100 students are enrolled

Who We Are: Junior Achievement USA® is the world's largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. JA programs are delivered by corporate and community volunteers and provide relevant, hands-on experiences that give students in pre-kindergarten through high school knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. Last year, Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana served over 129,000 students in 30 counties (27 in northern Indiana, two in Michigan, and one in Ohio). 

Volunteering Opportunities: Junior Achievement is a volunteer driven 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We need your help to make sure this event is a big success! Please consider being a volunteer. JA provides all materials and training. JA staff will schedule training with volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer for this event, please answer "yes" when prompted on the registration form. If you are unable to volunteer, please consider sharing this opportunity with your spouse, relatives, friends, or anyone you know that has a passion for their job and might love to share their experiences with students. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers.

All children of a parent volunteer who serves as a lead program teacher for the JA program (regardless of what age level taught) will attend this event for free! All children of a parent volunteer who assists the lead program teacher will attend this event at half price. 

Curriculum:

Due to limited space and student capactity, we will be combining grade levels. The following programs will be offered. For specific information about programming please click on the links below:

Elementary Programs

Please note, students in Pre-K & Kindergarten will be receiving the traditional Kindergarten program. Students in 1st & 2nd grade will be receiving the traditional 2nd grade program. Students in 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade will be receiving a brand new program desgined for 3rd-5th grade students.

Q & A:

Q: What kind of COVID-19 precautions are being implemented?

A: In an effort to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure and to help prevent the spread of the disease, the following protocols will be enforced:

• Any visitors to the JA building are required to wear a mask. If your student forgets, loses, or damages their mask, one will be provided for them.
• Visitors must sanitize their hands upon entry to the building.
• Students will be seated six feet from one another. 
• Activities that traditionally require students to be within six feet of one another will be modified.
• Lunch will be eaten in the same location the classes will take place to avoid cross-contamination.
• Student COVID-19 waivers will need to be signed prior to the event.

If any of the following apply to your student, they may not enter the building:

• Students have had close contact with an individual infected with COVID-19 within the last 14 days.
• Students are currently experiencing or have experienced in the past 14 days: fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
• Students have had close contact within the last 14 days with an individual suspected of being infected with COVID-19, including individuals exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
• Students have received a positive COVID-19 test within the last 10 days.

Q:  What is my committment as a parent?

A:  There are no outside lessons for you to teach prior to the day. Everything is taught the day of the event, so unless you volunteer to help out in the classroom, all you need to do is bring your student(s) to JA, check in with us, and let us take care of the rest.  

We ask that all students be checked in by a parent or guardian at JA no later than 8:50 AM on March 29th. You will receive an agenda for the day and a nametag for each student. In order to maintain social distancing, students will be released immediately to their designated spaces to begin the program.

We would also appreciate your support of this JA program opportunity by signing up as a volunteer in a class. If you opt to volunteer by being the lead teacher of a JA program, we will reimburse you for the full cost of the program after completing the JA In A Day. If you opt to volunteer by being an assistant to the lead teacher of the JA program, we will reimburse you for half the cost of the program after completing the JA In A Day.

All JA programs will finish at 1:30 PM. If you are not volunteering, we ask that you return at 1:35 to pick up your student(s).

Q:  How do I decide which grade level to pick for my student?

A: Typically, you would choose the grade level in which your student is currently enrolled. If your student is between grade levels and has not participated in a JA program previously, you may choose to select the grade level most appropriate for his or her age, or you may contact Kortney Castleman at 260-484-2543 for help in deciding what program would be the best fit for your student.

Q:  What about lunch?

A: Lunch will be provided for all students and parent volunteers in attendance. If you would prefer to pack a lunch for your student, you are more than welcome to do so. We will also have snacks for the day provided by JA  which will consist of a granola bar, fruit snack, and a water bottle. Please notify us of any dietary restrictions. 

Q: What if we have inclement weather?

A: Weather permitting, Pre-K through 5th grade students will be having an outside recess break during the day. Please dress your children in layers for the day, including coats and gloves as necessary. 

JA In A Day "Homeschool Edition" will run unless there is to be a Level One Snow Emergency. If we do have a Level One Snow Emergency, we will reschedule the JA In A Day.

Q: Why is registration limited to 100 students this year?

A: In the past, JA In A Day "Homeschool Edition" took place at Indiana Tech during their spring break week. The space was able to accomodate 200 students. This year, changes in Indiana Tech's academic calendar and the elimination of their spring break means that they are not able to host us. 

This year we will be hosting JA In A Day "Homeschool Edition" at the JA Headquarters Building. Classes will be held in our JA BizTown® space, JA Finance Park® space, and other areas of the building. Due to the sizing and set up of the available space, as well as social distancing guidelines, we are only able to accommodate 100 students.

Q: How else can I get involved with JA?

A: We will also be holding a special Homeschool Day on Wednesday, March 3rd at our JA BizTown and JA Finance Park facilities upon completion of their respective programs. Please click on the appropriate hyperlink below for more information:

Lemonade Day--Saturday, May 15, 2021. This program is FREE and meant for students of all ages. Registration opens in January 2021. 

JA Young Entrepreneur Summer Camp--Week of June 21-25, 2021. Open to students that will have finished grades 5 - 7. Registration opening soon! 

JA Young Entrepreneur Marketplace--Date to be announced soon! Open to young entrepreneurs up to age 21 that would like a venue to sell their products or services to the public. For more information, contact Karen Cooper at the JA Office at (260) 484-2543.
