Homeschool Edition on March 3, 2021

Important COVID-related Statement

We are accepting registrations now for the 2021 JA Finance Park Homeschool Day. Since the COVID situation changes frequently and often without much warning, we will reassess our ability to safely offer the experience in-person closer to the scheduled date. If we must cancel the event, there is a digital alternative that will be provided and your registration will be transfered to the following year.

In an effort to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure and to help prevent the spread of the disease, the following protocols will be enforced:

  • Any visitors to the JA building are required to wear a mask. If your student forgets, loses, or damages their mask, one will be provided for them.
  • Visitors must sanitize their hands upon entry to the building.
  • Students will be seated six feet from one another.
  • Activities that traditionally require students to be within six feet of one another will be modified.
  • Lunch will be eaten in the same storefront the students are assigned to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Student/volunteer COVID-19 waivers will need to be signed prior to the event.

If any of the following apply to your student, they may not enter the building:

  • Students have had close contact with an individual infected with COVID-19 within the last 14 days.
  • Students are currently experiencing or have experienced in the past 14 days: fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
  • Students have had close contact within the last 14 days with an individual suspected of being infected with COVID-19, including individuals exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Students have received a positive COVID-19 test within the last 10 days.

If you have questions or concerns about any of this, please reach out to discuss it with us.
Safety is our #1 goal and we appreciate your help with that.

What is JA Finance Park?

JA Finance Park helps area middle and high school students build a foundation upon which they can make intelligent financial decisions that last a lifetime, including decisions related to careers, income, expenses, savings, and credit.  The JA Finance Park program begins with a three-to-six-week classroom curriculum, which provides personal finance lessons and learning activities that align with state learning standards. Through these lessons, students learn about financial institutions, taxes and salaries, and budgeting. A supplemental JA Career Exploration Guide offers enhanced exploration of local educational and career opportunities.

The classroom curriculum culminates with a visit to the state-of-the-art Lincoln Finance Park facility, where students put their learning into practice. During this one-day experience, students “become” adults faced with real-life financial situations and choices. Each student is given a personal profile that includes details relating to his or her simulated family, educational background, career, and income-level. Then, the students are immersed in a reality-based experience that involves individual and family budgeting and decisions relating to housing, transportation, food, utilities, health care, investments, philanthropy, and banking.  At all times, adult volunteers (homeschool teachers/parents) guide students toward sound financial and lifestyle choices.

Students participating in JA Finance Park receive their profiles, work through their budgets, and make purchases entirely on iPads.
