NCFHCC Annual Training Summit:

Session 1

Youth Mental Health First Aid

May 22 from 8 am - 5 pm

You are invited to attend NCFHCC's Annual Training Summit on Mental Health First Aid. Session 1 on May 22nd focuses on Youth Mental Health First Aid and is designed to teach neighbors, parents, peers and caring citizens how to help a child or teen who is experiencing a mental health or substance use problem or is in crisis. Certified instructors from Meridian Behavioral Healthcare will provide instruction.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid curriculum spans mental health challenges for youth, review of normal adolescent development, and intensive guidance through the ALGEE action plan for both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis might occur, disruptive behaviors disorders, and eating disorders. This is an ideal forum to engage communities in the discussion of signs and symptoms of mental illness, prevalence of mental health disorders, the effectiveness of treatment and how to engage youth in services.

People affected by disasters and emergency situations may experience varying levels of stress and anxiety. They may also display symptoms that could adversely affect their ability to respond and function. A range of mental health and behavioral problems may surface in the stages of an emergency situation. Recognizing and addressing these concerns improves emergency response and can assist in healthy recovery following a traumatic event, natural disaster, public health emergency, or personal crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid builds skills that can be applied in emergency response.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is being offered free of charge as part of the NCFHCC's Annual Training Summit.  A light lunch will be providedContinuing Education:  Suwannee River Area Health Education Center, Inc. is a Florida Board of Nursing, Nursing Home Administrators, Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling approved provider of continuing education.
