We're diving into our 101st season and making a splash!  Opening night resounds with American Composer Florence Price's Symphony No. 3 which reflects the emotional complexity shared across the black American community during the turn of the 20th Century.  Price's music teems with struggle and tensions, yet blends with spiritual melodies in a cascade of passionate rhythms echoing folk tradition. The tumult rages on as we yield to the astrological forces of The Planets.  Holst's sweeping suite of seven movements promenades the planets - Mars, Venue, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune - and their associated influences on the human psyche.  Toss amid the merry, magical and mysterious confluence of emotions and prepare for an unforgettable conclusion where the imagination knows no difference between sound and silence.

Batten the hatches! The music for The Heroic Symphony is full of stormy contrasts!  That rascal, Don Giovanni, bursts upon our program with his thunderous seductions and colorful bravado in the overture to the opera Don Giovanni.  Things may end badly for our philandering leading man, but the hero of our next piece, principal horn for the Boston Pops, Richard Sebring, knows what it's like to come under fire.  Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 3, places this fearless soloist in the middle of the musical maelstrom with its dark and unexpectedly rich, dominant sounds. Brace yourself for the full impact of Beethoven's masterpiece, Sinfonia Eroica, the musical embodiment of idealism, death and rebirth - a celebration of greatness with wave after wave of fiery emotion.

Catch some holiday spirit during our annual Holiday Pops weekend.  Create a holiday tradition that includes fun, family, community - and beloved seasonal music.  Actor Neil McGarry, whose performances have enchanted audiences across the south shore joins us for a mini, magical musical retelling of A Christmas Carol set to live orchestral music.  Astounding tenor Matthew Anderson returns to sing holiday classics.  The Federal Furnace Treble Chorus and the PCIS Children's Chorus lend their angelic voices to our three festive holiday Concerts.  Our annual March of the Toys charity toy drive and jolly guest from the North Pole round out this holiday spectacular.

Bring the kids, family and friends to an afternoon of sheer musical delight!  Our annual Family Concert Rising Stars Showcase, packs a whole lot of fun in to one event!  Meet our Phil Musicians and their instruments during a pre-concert instrument demonstration - the perfect way to test-drive many instruments!  This hour-long Phil concert includes performances by the Plymouth Children's Chorus and the winner of the South Shore Conservatory's Youth Concerto Competition.  Family-friendly ticket prices make this an affordable, fun way to experience the magic of live orchestral music.

Dance Evolution

You'll dance in your seat (or perhaps in the aisle) to this program overflowing with storied influences and irresistible melodies!  Composer Arturo Marquez's explosive Danzon No. 2 is a modern Mexican classic inspired by Cuban dance rhythms, sure to get the blood boiling.  We'll waltz our way into Tchaikovsky's enduring, enchanting ballet suite, Sleeping Beauty, and then meander into Cafe Neon, the Greek-inspired composition by our very own music director and conductor, Steven Karidoyanes.  Finally we'll rumble amid the Jets and the Sharks, love and loyalty, with Bernstein's passionate score to West Side Story.

Spring Pops!  An evening with Livingston Taylor

The finale to our 101st season is a true celebration!  American singer-songwriter, Livingston Taylor joins the Phil for a very special evening of heartfelt story-telling splashed against the power of beauty of our orchestra.  Feelings abound with a program that includes Taylor's 1979 Bilboard chart climber, I Will Be in Love with You, and his brother James' song of yearning and home, Caroline In my Mind.  A consummate performer and musician, Livingston Taylor takes us across miles of memories with familiar, wistful ballads such as When Sunny Gets Blue, and Over the Rainbow- plus what celebration would be complete without a touch of bluegrass?  Spring Pops has it all from soulful start to toe-tapping finish.
