"Black Like Who? Black Like ME!"

A conversation designed and facilitated by Black youth for Black youth, young adults and adults to empower themselves to be active in the discovery, manifestation, and articulation of  their visions for themselves, Black communities, and the World!

We are excited about this year 's theme, "Black Like Who? Black Like Me!"

Join us as we explore conversations about "black identity". We assert there is no rule book to blackness! We look to transform the understands of there being rules to racial identity such that we can feel "proud to be Black but don't have to be limited by identity and boxed in by race"-- Toure ,Who's Afraid of Post Blackness?

Celebrate Black History Month

Kynan is a 7 year-old boy currently in grade 2. Kynan has a passion for sharks; he likes reading books andwatching videos about sharks. He would like to be a police officer when grows up.  Just after his 4th birthday, Kynan was diagnosed was Sickle Cell Anemia. Since then, Kynan has received many blood transfusions and it is likely that he will need more over the course of his life. He may even need a stemcell transplant.

Currently, African Canadians are under-represented as both blood and potential stem cell donors. This meansfinding a matching donor for patients like Kynan who require numerous blood transfusions and potentiallya stem cell transplant could be challenging.

Fewer than 30% of patients will find a compatible donor within their family. The remaining 70%rely on the generosity of others. There are currently 36 Black patients looking for astem cell match from an unrelated donor.

3Dreads and a Baldhead is proud to be once again partnering with One Match and we will be conducting Swab events on both days of our annual event and One Match representatives will be on-site to give out information about the Bone Marrow Registry.  This issue needs our attention and we invite you to join us and GET REGISTERED!!!!
