Summer Retreat with Veronica Phillips
Hosted by Texas Lettering Arts Council

This relaxing 4-day retreat will serve up an exploration of techniques in mono printing and bookmaking using canvas and fabric with mixed media as well as hand-lettering in Dallas Texas. Open to all ability levels. Space is limited to 18 adult students.
Due to the pandemic conditions, our venue has changed to a hotel setting in the DFW area to accommodate social distancing and sanitation procedures. Each participant will have their own table/workstation with adequate spacing between fellow students according social distance standards. Masks will be required. Demonstrations will also project on a screen through document camera system.

1ST COURSE
The first creative-course features the mixed media play of monoprinting with the gelli plate. Participants will create their own stencils and printing with various items to create a mono print.
After layering and printing on card stock, book pages, deli paper and text weight papers, participants will creatively assemble several masterpieces using the finished mono prints into booklets, tags, pockets, envelopes and cards, just to name a few.

2ND COURSE
The second course course introduces the magical walnut ink. Participants will transform Manila file folders into works of useful art like pockets, trifold booklets, tags, cards, envelopes and more. Participants will spice up their projects with embellishments like fabric, charms, eyelets, ribbon, image transfers, rub-ons and of course hand-lettering.

3RD COURSE
The third and final course will involve whipping together tactile play with canvas “fabric” and canvas paper. Participants will apply various multi-media techniques of painting, collage, stenciling, masking, stamping onto each layer, transforming their creations into useful projects. The finished works of art will include a hand-sewn journal and portfolio.

SNAIL MAIL BONUS
Payments sent in a hand-lettered, decorated envelope qualify for a decorated lettering contest with prizes. You may send a hand-lettered, decorated envelope later, (when you have time to work on it) as long as it is received by AUGUST 15, 2020 to qualify for the Creative Envelope Snail Mail Contest. Three prizes will be awarded to the most popular by vote of the class.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY
There are no refunds for this course unless, in the unlikely event this course is cancelled. All fees are due by August 5, 2020 Deposits are required to secure commitments to hold the course. If your plans change, a refund is only possible if there is someone on the waiting list who can fill your spot.

ABOUT VERONICA
