Four 2-hour Wednesday sessions
1/20, 1/27, 2/3 & 2/10, 2021

This live Zoom class is for Advanced Beginning calligraphers with some Copperplate lettering experience who are out of practice or looking for an in-depth review. This class will help you re-examine and re-evaluate your Copperplate calligraphy.
All sessions will be recorded and available for 30 days beyond the final class session.

Copperplate Lettering by Eleanor Winters

The purpose of this class is to improve existing skills and develop visual/critical ability, in order to be more demanding of yourselves in terms of letterforms.  
We'll focus on improving consistency of shape, slant, pressure and letter connections,
with an emphasis on SPACING, learning to see the space inside and between letters and make visually informed decisions.
Four - 2 hour sessions will be recorded and available for 30 days following final class.

Students must have an internet connection and Zoom Client software installed on a computer (recommended), tablet or phone.

Recommended Supplies
• Nibs (Nikko G, Nikko Zebra, Tachikawa G)
• Penholder (Oblique for right-handed students, straight penholder for left-handed students)
• Non-waterproof ink (recommended: Higgins Eternal, Moon Palace)
• Paper -- smooth practice paper  (Canson Pro-Marker Layout or John Neal Copperplate Practice Pad)
• Water container
• Cloth or paper towels
• Pencil
• Eraser
Note:  Feel free to use other nibs, ink, paper if you have preferences. 

Class is limited to 15 students to provide students with the maximum interactive experience.
Some sessions may exceed the 2-hour block for questions.

OPTIONAL MENTORING SESSIONS AVAILABLE
A limited number of private, one-on-one, Zoom tutorial sessions are available by appointment with Eleanor.
Students will receive an opportunity to secure a mentoring time slot. Please indicate Mentoring session on registration form.
The cost for individual sessions is $50 per 30 minutes and payable directly to Eleanor Winters.

About Eleanor
Eleanor Winters

Eleanor Winters has been an active participant in the international calligraphy movement for nearly 40 years.  A commercial as well as fine-art calligrapher, she is the author of six calligraphy books:
 Calligraphy in Ten Easy Lessons (Dover Publications, 1984)
 Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy (Dover Publications, 1989)
 Calligraphy For Kids (Sterling Publishing, 2004)
1-2-3 Calligraphy (Sterling Publishing, 2006) and
Italic and Copperplate Calligraphy
 (Dover, 2011)
Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy has also been published in Chinese and Spanish language editions.  

Her most recent book, Remembering the Children:  A la Mémoire des Enfants Déportés, a fine-art book published in 2019, is a collection of her calligraphic paintings, created in memory of 6000 Parisian children who were murdered in the Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust.  

She served as Director of the Calligraphy Workshop in New York City for 25 years, taught as a Professor of Art at Long Island University from 1990 - 2005, and has been a regular instructor for the New York Society of Scribes for the past 20 years.

She teaches workshops in the US and Europe and has visited Asia as a calligraphy instructor numerous times, teaching in Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta, Taiwan, Manila, Seoul and Bangkok since 2014.  She recently lectured at a virtual conference in St. Petersburg and was featured in a virtual worldwide calligraphy exhibition organized in Singapore.

As a fine-art calligrapher, Eleanor has exhibited her work in museums and galleries in the US and Europe.  An exhibition of 75 paintings from her A la Mémoire des Enfants Déportés series was hosted by the Anne Frank Center in New York in 2014, the Holocaust Museum in Detroit in 2016, and is scheduled for a solo exhibition in Paris in 2021.
