About the Presenter

Angela Boardman, LMFT is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Supervisor at California Psychological Institute. She has specialized training in Early Childhood Mental Health and relationship-based therapy models. Angela’s work focuses on helping children and families who have experienced attachment trauma. Angela has a collaborative and inclusive approach and she utilizes play to help heal developmental trauma.

Workshop Description

This intervention-heavy training will provide hands-on activities, role plays, and small break-out groups to give participants practice in play therapy techniques. Interventions sampled will pull from directive and non-directive play therapy models. The course will also touch on interventions for community-based services and parent-child therapy. Participants will learn how to appropriately document play therapy interventions in progress notes.

1. Describe 4 theoretical frameworks of play therapy.

2. Identify 3 non-directive play activities that can be utilized in play therapy.

3. Discuss 3 directive play activities that can be utilized in play therapy.

4. Describe 3 parent-child play therapy activities that target attachment repair.

5. Identify 3 play therapy interventions to use in community-based services.

6. Identify 3 distinct functions of play with regard to relationship development.

Continuing Education
This workshop meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit  per day for Psychologists, MFTs & LCSWs  and LPCC's.  The California Association for Play Therapy (CALAPT) is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to play therapy (APT Approved Provider # 00-094). The California Association for Play Therapy is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Psychologists may receive 6 hours of continuing education credit for this workshop.The California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) now recognizes APA continuing education credit for license renewal for LCSWs, MFTs and LPCCs The California Association for Play Therapy maintains responsibility for this program and its contents.  NO CREDIT FOR PARTIAL ATTENDANCE.

 
Cancellations and Refunds

Requests for refunds must be made in writing to the CALAPT, P.O. Box  12404, Newport Beach, CA 92658 or by e-mail: calapt@calplaytherapy.org.  Requests must be postmarked two weeks prior to workshop date in order to receive refund. There is a $25.00 administrative fee for refunds. No refunds for cancellations after the deadline.  There are no price breaks for partial attendance.
