On July 10-12, 2012, join Serve DC and Gallaudet University for a free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training designed specifically for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, Gallaudet staff and students, and interpreters. American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be provided.
Serve DC’s CERT program trains citizen volunteers to be better prepared for emergencies in their communities. CERT members provide critical support to first responders and assistance to victims and can help organize spontaneous volunteers at disaster sites. CERT members also help with non-emergency projects that improve public safety. Classes include: Disaster Preparedness; Fire Safety; Medical Operations and First Aid; Search and Rescue; Disaster Psychology; Terrorism; and more.
This pilot training will include recorded focus-group sessions, which will be used to model empowerment best practices and promote preparedness in all District of Columbia communities and across the country.
Interpreters who complete this training will earn two CEUs. Social Work CEUs will also be made available.
