The Program of Events

21 February 2012
GMUS-2 will begin with a brief overview of demonstrated progress of action items from GMUS-1.

Global updates from minor use representatives sharing regional priorities, activities and areas of progress. Representatives will also discuss opportunities for collaboration and cooperation with a goal of developing a work plan to move minor use issues forward.

The first day will also include a number of panel discussions focusing on perceived gaps and needs for: data generation, crop group implementation, capacity development workshops, and ongoing global minor use collaboration such as Codex and OECD.

22 February 2012
The true work begins on day two with breakout sessions focusing on:

Planning and dealing with Minor use issues; what are the mutual needs of commodity groups? Using tropical fruits as one example of how pesticide MRLs affects trade. The group will uncover the issues and brain storm resolutions.

Capacity Development; framing options for building cooperation, alliances and coordination of activities.

This group will be challenged to build a crosswalk of activities of existing organizations (national, regional, international (OECD/Codex) etc.) that deal with registrations and establishment of MRLs for minor uses.

Data generation, data sharing and databases; evaluating data development on local and international levels and the use of representative crops from crop grouping and data extrapolation for efficient use of funds and data to establish minor uses. Understanding the importance of databases and how this technology and how it is used to identify, track and set priorities. Logistical discussions will consider operation; single administrator or single database, and database funding.

Regulatory incentives and policy considerations; what can be developed to add ‘value’ to minor uses and encourage registrations and MRLs?

23 February 2012
Presenting and refining breakout group recommendations; this day will focus on breakout group recommendations and develop a Five Year Plan that will guide cooperation and coordination of Minor Use activities into the future.

Register today and play a part in bringing healthy crops to the world.
