NEW Friday Evening Lecture

We are excited to announce that we have added a Friday Night Lecture.

The OHSU Radiology Visiting Professor lecture series is thrilled to welcome Dr. Scott Flamm, Head of the Section of Cardiovascular Imaging, at the Cleveland Clinic in October 2013. Dr. Flamm will present two lectures for the OHSU Imaging Update weekend.

New to the OHSU Imaging Update is a pre-conference evening for specialized CME.  Friday evening, October 4th, Dr. Flamm will present a talk titled  “Cardiac MR & CT - Clinical Indications for Advanced Imaging", which will cover topics of ischemia and viability imaging in cardiomyopathies.  Friday evenings events will be open to attendees of the OHSU Imaging Update and for other attendees at a reduced fee.  Dr. Christina Fuss will present a talk titled "Why Advanced Cardiac Imaging is Important - Literat" Friday evening.  A total of 2 hours of CME are available.  The CME program will appeal to Radiologists, Cardiologists, and others interested in cardiovascular imaging.  Philips Healthcare will sponsor the event.  Saturday morning October 5th, Dr. Flamm will open the two day OHSU Imaging Update with a presentation titled “Practical Cardiac MRI: Fast Function, Viability, and Valve Assessment”, followed by 2 full days of multi-specialty Radiology CME.

We hope you will be able to join us  at 6:30 Friday night October 4th, in the screening room, at the Hotel Deluxe. Reception including light hors d'oeuvres and beverages begins at 5:45 pm. CME presentations begin at 6:30 pm

The Imaging Update will be at the Scottish Rite building this year.   This beautiful classic building is rich with history.  Originally built in 1902, it has always been owned and occupied by the Scottisch Rite and only recently has it been made available for non-masonic events. This was the first building specifically designed and built for the Scottish Rite in the United States and was used as a model for other Scottish Rite buildings throughout the United States. The Scottish Rite is located right off the MAX line.

This year there should be plenty of parking, a lot is located just across the street.  If you will be spending the night in Portland, the closest Hotel is Hotel Deluxe, located just next  door.  We will be serving breakfast and lunch again this year.  AS Good As It Gets Catering will be providing the gastronomical delights.  They promise not to burn the eggs. And, of course, there is free WiFi, Bring your laptops and Tablets!

2013 4th Annual OHSU Imaging Update in the Rose City

Course Overview

The course will consist of didactic lectures applying up-to-date imaging technologies with emphasis on improved diagnostic acumen and minimization of additional testing and where appropriate to decrease radiation exposure.

It will aim to Inform of the latest updates and developments in the following areas:

  • Neuroradiology: Description of perfusion methods and clinical applications, review imaging findings of etiologies of stroke in young adults and present interesting cases in neuroradiology including pediatric neuroradiology.
  • ENT: Advanced imaging in evaluation of the visual pathways and orbits pathology.
  • Reducing Radiation: Strategies to reduce does in children and young adults.
  • Cardiac Imaging: Advanced cardiac imaging with MR and CT improves diagnostic sensitivity and specificity in congenital and acquired cardiac diseases. Clinical and imaging approach topics will be discussed.
  • Breast Imaging: Pictorial review of the BI-RADS lexicon for breast MRI, with clinical examples of lexicon terminology. Differential diagnoses for bilateral focal and bilateral diffuse processes affecting breast tissue.
  • Ultrasound: Review of First and second trimester ultrasound for patients who desire non invasive genetic screening. Ultrasound evaluation of causes of adnexal pain or mass.
  • Body Imaging: Review sources of error in abdominal imaging, review classification used in acute pancreatitis to improve communication, discuss common malpractice vulnerabilities in abdominal imaging, visuals on how to perform kidney biopsies, update on CT colonoscopy and some interesting cases on genitourinary imaging.
  • Musculoskeletal Imaging: Discuss pearls in MSK while providing insight to possible future development in these areas.
  • Pediatric Imaging: Discuss imaging findings in various Phakomatoses. Discuss triage guidelines for foreign body ingested with emphasis on prevention and recognition of potentially threatening complications.

The course will allow participants to apply this knowledge to their clinical practice while providing insight to possible future development in these areas.

Who should attend:

Radiologists, radiologists-in-training and other health professionals interested in the science and practice of radiology.
