2021 Virtual Finger Lakes Youth Climate Summit Series

Join the 2021 Finger Lakes Youth Climate Summit series of conversations led by summit alumni and current college students on topics including environmental activism, social media, leadership and advocacy. With a growing transition from in-person to virtual events, there is no reason for the fight for climate justice to stay stationary. This year we will explore the power of youth voices through social media and other digital platforms, as well as learn from summit alumni about implementing Climate Action Plan projects at home, with your school and/or in your community!

Participate in as many session as you would like! Attend individually or part of a team. Open to high school students in the Finger Lakes region and beyond. Register once and we'll send the weekly Zoom meeting link via email and the REMIND app. 

Session Schedule (Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30 pm unless otherwise noted)
Feb. 23, Advocating via Social Media: This kickoff to the FLYCS series will focus on how to elevate your climate activism platform through a variety of social media.

March 2, Artivism: Create activism artwork and graphics to be shared on social media. Learn about the power of images to advocate to larger audiences.

March 9, Advocating to Authority: Work with summit intern, Erin Kluge ( East Aurora HS '19, HWS '23) to learn how to implement a climate resoulution in your school district or community.

March 16, Connecting with Community: (6:30 - 7:30 pm) Already started projects at your school and wondering, "what's next?" Community outreach may be the perfect next step. Discuss with Homer Youth Climate Summit alums, Andrew Fagerheim and Shenqua about sustainable action in your local community.

March 23, Student-to-Student Pannel: (6:30 - 7: 30 pm) Engage with former youth climate summit participants to hear about their experiences with their action plans, what they learned during their projects, and how they stayed motivated to tackle longer-term climate action plans!

April 5-18, Climate Action Planning: (on own or with your school) plan out your climate action plan project, whether it is an individual project, with a team or in your school/community, to launch during Earth Week! 

April 19-25, Earth Week Climate Action: (on own or with your school) implement your own action plan at home, with your school and/or community during Earth Week! Collect photos, social media, etc, that you would like to share at the Climate Action Plan Celebration!

April 27, Earth Week Climate Action Celebration: Reconnect with summit series students to share and discuss your action plan projects during Earth Week. This regrouping will be an opportunity to network with other students to celebrate project successes!
