Indianapolis Chapter CSI October Meeting:  

Tile Council of North America (TCNA) 2013 Panel Discussion

This month's chapter meeting  will feature a panel of experts from the tile setting industry, along with architect, Scott Conwell, Director of Industry Development and Technical Services for the International Masonry Institute (IMI). The discussion will emphasize designing with large format tile and the requirements necessary for successful installation, addressing Divisions 03 and 09. Our panel will answer the challenging questions and disucss the new key additions featured in the 2013 TCNA Handbook. Please  join us in honing your expertise and learning what's new. 

Moderator:

Erin Jennings, Assoc. AIA, Assoc. IIDA, President of the Indiana Chapter of IIDA.

Erin graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Interior Design. She received her Master of Architecture Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) in 2008. She brings a multi-disciplinary experience to the krM Architecture+ team, including interior design and architecture. She is a member of the Young Architect's Forum in Indianapolis, and a current co-chair committee member for Architecture for Humanity - Indianapolis Chapter. 

Panelists:

David J. DeBear, CSI, CTC - Custom Building Products

David brings over 28 years of combined education and experience to the design community, as the National Construction Services Manager with Custom Building Products. With his background in the construction industry, and comprehensive knowledge of building materials and methods, he serves both architects and specifiers as a resource and an educator. David  has developed over 24 registered programs for Custom Building Products. He has co-authored and has presented portions of the Ceramic Tile Institute of America's, Ceramic Tile Consultant course.

Scott Conwell, AIA, ALA, CSI, CDT, LEED AP BD+C - International Masonry Institute

Scott is the Director of Industry Development and Technical for the IL office of the IMI. During his 18 years at IMI, he has developed and presented a variety of masonry seminars to architects, designers, and contractors all over the country. He has authored technical articles published in The Construction Specifier, Structure Magazine, Licensed Architect, among others. He is a member of the TCNA Handbook Committee. He is currently on the board of CSI Chicago Chapter and the Editorial Advisory Board of Masonry Construction magazine. Scott attended the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, and is a registered architect in Illinois.

Mitch  Hawkins - LATICRETE 

Mitch is the Technical Services Manager for LATICRETE International at the corporate world headquarters in Bethany, CT. He oversees the day to day operations of the technical services department, in providing information, assistance and knowledge to the tile and stone installation community. During his 12 years at LATICRETE, he has traveled the world learning about the variety of installation methods and materials, educating others about LATICRETE installation products, and assisting in improving the world tile and stone community. He has authored 4 books for LATICRETE which address the installation of tile and stone in specific and challenging environments, and written dozens of technical papers which provide insight into specific industry concerns and practices. 

Tom Plaskota, CSI, CDT - H.B Fuller Construction Products, Inc.

Tom serves as Technical Support Manager for H.B. Fuller Construction Products, Inc. HBF-CP develops and markets technologically advanced solutions that add value to commercial, industrial and residential construction. Tom is actively involved with the National Tile Contractors Association and is a former Industry Director for the Chicago Chapter of CSI. He has been a guest speaker at various industry trade shows and events, such as Coverings and Total Solutions, and has authored articles for several publications including The Construction Specifier, Tile for Architects, Designers and Affiliates (TADA), The TileLetter, among others. He has over 30 years of experience with construction methods, testing and materials.
