Indianapolis Chapter CSI October 2015 Meeting:

Exterior Continuous Insulated Claddings forEnergy Efficiency and Architectural Diversity

The Indianapolis Chapter of CSI is having its October Chapter Meeting at the Willows on Westfield on Thursday, October 15 from 5:30pm-8:30pm

This program examines the use of Exterior Continuous Insulation based on current and proposed model building energy code requirements specifically related to improved energy efficiency objectives for envelope wall assemblies.

There is a succinct relationship between overall building envelope performance, wall design, air barrier integration and insulation type and placement.  The energy code mandated use of Continuous Insulation becomes increasingly important to understand for all projects regardless of climate zone and directly relates to Environmental Stewardship and long term Sustainability.

Attendees will further recognize how the use of Exterior Insulated Claddings in envelope wall design provide a cost effective and aesthetically diverse solution to meeting the intent of the energy code and accomplishing overall improvements to building envelope performance for both new and renovation constructions

Learning Objectives:

1) Deconstruct the “perceived” value of traditional insulation methods and  reduced performance within framed wall assemblies and Reconstruct new strategies for developing true “effective” insulation value and high performance

 2) Identify and Define Model Energy Code and Green Design Standard’s requirements for Exterior Continuous Insulation

 3) Differentiate between “Prescriptive” R-value and “Performance” U-factor wall design paths and recognize where Continuous Insulation must be integrated

 4) Discover the interrelationship between Exterior Insulated Claddings and the use of Continuous Insulation to achieve Energy Efficient, Cost Effective and Aesthetically Pleasing Design Solutions

About the Speaker:

John D. Powers Technical Sales Associate, Dryvit Systems, Inc, Rushville, Indiana
With 35 years of accumulated construction industry experience, Mr. Powers offers accurate
industry insight regarding exterior finished insulation systems, vapor retarder assemblies, and air
barrier assemblies. He is very knowledgeable regarding the ever changing code requirements for
exterior building wall insulation requirements and cost effective ways to meet code, provide
architectural beauty, and implement practical low maintenance façade assemblies.

Currently Mr. Powers serves multiple markets as a technical representative for Dryvit Systems, Inc., and he is
heavily involved in helping owners, design professionals, design build firms, and GC’s with cost effective exterior insulation assembly design and maintenance.
