Sharing Solutions to Promote Physician Well-being Conference

Gary Poland, M.D.Keynote lecture: Work-Life Balance from a Father/Daughter Perspective
Gregory Poland, MD, director of the Vaccine Research Group at Mayo Clinic, and his daughter Caroline Poland, MA, a mental health counselor at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, will discuss what family life was like growing up with a busy physician/father in an internationally-acclaimed keynote lecture.

Panel discussion: Successful Well-being Strategies from Minnesota Leaders
Expert panelists will share tips for addressing and preventing physician burnout. Topics and speakers are:

  • "Improving Balance, Avoiding and Healing Burnout"—Karen Lawson, MD, director of health coaching, University of Minnesota Center for Spirituality and Healing 
  • "Physician Wellness through Employee Assistance Programs"—Daniel Whitlock, vice president of medical affairs at CentraCare Health Systems, St. Cloud.
  • "Using Physician Peer Support Groups"—Patricia Lindholm, MD, Fergus Falls Medical Group, and MMA president
  • "Early Intervention Ideas to Protect Physicians"—Bill Spinelli, MD, Allina Center for Health Care Innovation
  • "Interactive Approach to Becoming a Balanced Physician"—Carl Patow, MD, executive director and vice president for HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education

Small Group Audience Discussion
Small groups will identify and discuss the challenges that organizations face in implementing well-being activities and the role Minnesota Medical Association
can play in helping promote physician wellness. 

Conference attendees can receive up to four CME credits. There is no charge for MMA physician members; cost is $35 for non-members.
