D.J. Allen, the outgoing chairman of the board of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, will be roasted on Friday, June 12 at 6 p.m. at the Henderson Convention Center.
KLUC’s Chet Buchanan will serve as the roastmaster and dais members are scheduled to include: UNLV basketball coach Dave Rice; former Henderson mayor Jim Gibson; former Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid; UNLV Runnin’ Rebel play-by-play broadcaster Jon Sandler; Chamber CEO/President Scott Muelrath; past Chamber chairman Rick Smith; real estate professional and owner of Born And Raised Scott Godino; and longtime friends of Allen – Walt Denison and Jim Seebock. Allen’s 90-year-old grandmother, Dona Williams, is also scheduled to play a role in the event.
Allen is the founding Vice Chairman of the Dave Rice Foundation, which supports the fight against autism in Southern Nevada. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dave Rice Foundation as well as the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. This is an HCC Community Day event.
Tickets for the event are just $50 each and tables of ten are available for $500. For those of you who would be willing to pay $100 to NOT attend, an option has been set up for your donation (All in good fun!). For those who make a donation in lieu of attending, we will have an empty seat with your name placed at it to show your support of these two organizations, while also showing your disdain for Mr. Allen.
“D.J.’s being a good sport about this, but make no mistake about it, we are going to light him up,” Muelrath said. “He said he wanted to do something different to support the Chamber and the Dave Rice Foundation as he ended his term, so we decided to take his challenge. We figure we’ve had to listen to his awful jokes for two years as chairman, it’s time to turn the jokes on him.”
A barbeque dinner will be provided by sponsor Emerald Island Casino. Drinks will be provided by Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada.
All attendees are invited to dress relaxed as this will be a casual event filled with good humor and good will!
