Lunch & Learn Spring 2023

St. Mark's Gospel:  Authority! Power! Action!

It's Structure is its Genius

Presented by Tom Bair. Bair is most known for his “dramatic yet understated rendition of all 16 chapters of the King James Version of St. Mark’s Gospel from memory,” which he performed in 2017 at our Cathedral of the Incarnation. He has appeared in theaters around the country and on some of the most notable stages in New York, including Playwright’s Horizons, Circle Rep, and The New Dramatists.

In this seminar, we will explore together the genius of this Gospel and its overall impact by looking at the narrative technique and literary forms. that shape its stunning effect. Included in the presentation will be the performance of selected texts (Herod, the Olivet Discourse, fatal conflicts, and more) helping to bring its structure and literary form into focus.St. Mark’s Gospel in the KJV: Perfection on the page and great for the stage!

Tom Bair has been an active member of the Episcopal Church for over 40 years in church service roles as a Vestryman, Asst. Treasurer, Search Committee member, Stewardship Chairman, Advisory Board Chair, Lay Reader, and Eucharistic minister.
