THE GREAT DIVIDE in Tech Etiquette!

Colleen A. Rickenbacher

Colleen Rickenbacher is a speaker and author in the field of protocol, etiquette, civility, and communication skills.

Her four books and training cover practical business and dining skills, the proper etiquette and protocol. They navigate globally in any international climate and provide effective activities for making great impressions, boosting critical thinking skills, and improving customer service. She trains her clients to deal both internationally and domestically to prevent any faux pas relating to business operations, dining differences, dress, entertaining, and social skills.

Colleen has achieved numerous certifications and awards, but her highest achievement is the induction into the prestigious Events Industry Council Hall of Leaders. This award is considered the highest honor in all the hospitality industry. She is also extremely proud of her achievement of being the first and second President of TxACOM.

She has been a member of TxACOM since 1995 and enormously proud of the advancements that the Boards and members have made over the past 27 years.

April Melendez

April Melendez is here as a representative of the newer generation, one that has grown up with technology as part of their everyday lives. Expectations of etiquette and communication are seen differently with this technological influence. She falls under a cusp generation, with aspects of Millennials and Gen Z viewpoints.

April frequently has been told she is “old-fashioned” for her generation, thanks to how her parents raised her. She may agree with Colleen on some aspects of professionalism because of this, but can speak for what she has seen from her peers on those points.

April is new to the industry and professional world. Her basis of knowledge comes from a Bachelor’s in Merchandising from SFA and a Certificate in Event & Meeting Management from Dallas College. She marks her highest achievement as having the top GPA in her degree at SFA while having worked through school and participated in multiple clubs. Now working as the Marketing Coordinator at Lorenzo Hotel with a couple side businesses, she is eager to find her place in this lively industry.
