Capturing the voice of young people to influence coaching programme design - Thursday 12 November @ 18.30 cet (17.30 gmt/UK time)

In this interactive and thought provoking workshop, we’ll present the views and voices of over 150 young people through our ‘Youth Voices Surveys’ and other informal research methods. Our ongoing research aims to reach up to 500 young people by 2021. It explores the coaching and leadership needs of global youth; connecting research to programme design and practise, placing young people at its heart.

We aim to utilise this research to effectively create a free youth-centred leadership training programme, drawing on principles of coaching to meet the personal and professional growth needs of young people. Coacharya hypothesise that the youth of today have large gaps in their understanding of core life, communication and work-ready skills and would benefit greatly from coaching and leadership training. Through youth participation we are designing and creating a meaningful Youth Leadership Programme to bridge these potential skills gaps and gain invaluable insights into the coaching needs of youth. Our pilot Youth Leadership Programme commenced in October 2020 and we’re eager to share and discuss the challenges, wins, recommendations and results with our audience in an engaging and interactive manner. We’ll utilise breakout rooms for discussion after presenting our exciting results and even show videos made by our young participants to inspire you. Leah Black is a Level 7 JNC professionally-qualified youth and community practitioner and coach, who is dedicated to inspiring and empowering the next generations through mentoring, coaching, education, and training. She has 15 years’ experience working with communities and 11-25+ year olds in the UK, Ecuador, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda and virtually across the globe. Leah has worked in the charitable, mental health and education sectors and has gained a lot of experience working with young people in a variety of roles and locations. She is the founder of ‘The Youth Mentor Coach’ and currently leads on Coacharya’s Youth Leadership Programme. Leah strongly believes that core life and social skills should be integrated into global mainstream education to help young people in their personal and professional development. She strives to prepare future generations to be the best they can be for themselves, for others and for the world; enabling young people to feel that they belong, can lead and be heard, succeed, thrive and 'be the change they wish to see in the world' - Gandhi.  Leah will be joined by Magda Walczak who mobilized the youth leadership initiative. She is the CEO of Coacharya and an advocate of youth coaching. 

Magda Walczak is CEO of Coacharya, an organisation that seeks to democratise coaching throughout all geographies and ages. She’s a global citizen who believes that all boundaries are surmountable. Magda is an avid supporter of women’s rights and animal rights. Her book, Saylor’s Tale, aims to teach children the responsibilities of having a pet.  Magda‘s undergraduate degree is from Loyola University Chicago (USA) and her MBA is from AGSM in Sydney (Australia). She lives in Chicago with her fur babies Saylor, Sorsha, Miles and McClane.
