Sitting with the Trouble: institutional memory and historical prejudices in business practices

hat is the legacy of historical prejudice? In start-ups, family-owned enterprises, or in businesses with years or decades of operations behind them, policies and procedures can cause active harm to existing or potential new clients, employees, and business partners.

We'll begin with a review of Jones and Okun's 2001 article about ingrained cultural attitudes, unpacking how it relates to the ongoing and challenging issues of the present day. Then through personal writing and reflection, we'll address how to see, analyze, and interrupt unintentionally supressive practices that can threaten workplace culture and our relationships with employees, business partners, and clients.

If you are able, please read this article ahead of the workshop!
