Military Clients: The Exceptions to the Rules

with Ty Gaines, EA

A 2 CE Hour NYSSEA Webinar

Some rules are meant to be broken.

Tax rules apply to most taxpayers across the board, however there are some situations that apply to military taxpayers only.  This seminar is designed to educate and clarify some of the tax laws surrounding military personnel.  It is not meant to be comprehensive but to highlight the most used and overlooked laws.  It will provide a brief overview of the interplay with various state rules as well.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize Home of Record and State Filing Requirements
  • Apply the Military Spouse Residency Relief Act (MSRRA)
  • Review rules for The Veteran Benefits Transition Act
  • Discuss rules that apply to military taxpayers only
  • Recognize scams that target veterans
  • Distinguish between laws for reservists versus active duty taxpayers
