Nonprofits: The Basics

EVENT OVERVIEW

Ever wonder if you should start a non-profit?  How would a nonprofit be different from for a profit business? Getting a new nonprofit organization off to the right start can mean the difference between success and failure. Due to increased regulation of nonprofits, it is important that nonprofit managers see the legal benefits and obligations of nonprofit incorporation and tax-exemption.

Want to learn more about how to form and manage a nonprofit?  This seminar, led by a nonprofit expert will take you step by step through the process of starting and running a successful nonprofit.  It will explore the business and legal side of launching a nonprofit, including legal obligations and differences in business approach.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

At the end of this workshop, you will have the knowledge and resources to:

  • Describe the purposes of nonprofits, and the differences between nonprofits and for-profit businesses
  • Summarize how to incorporate, register and gain tax-exempt status
  • Define the governance responsibilities of board members and officers
  • Initiate strategies for recruiting board members and volunteers
  • Begin planning for financial management and fundraising using the 3 major sources of funding for nonprofits.
