Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum

In 1909 the Indianapolis Motor Speedway opened as a test track for the infant automobile industry. The Speedway promoted several short races in 1909 and 1910. These races weren’t the success the owners wanted so they decided in 1911 there would be one race and it would be for 500 miles. Thus, a tradition was born.

During your visit to this century-old facility you visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, which displays many cars that won the Indy 500 plus other automobiles from around the world. Also, a 20-minute video is presented telling the history of the Speedway. In addition to visiting the museum enjoy a 12-minute narrated tour while traveling around the 2.5 mile oval.

Scottish Rite Cathedral

Built between 1927 and 1929 at a cost of $2.5 million, every dimension in the Cathedral is evenly divisible by thirty-three reflecting the thirty-three degrees of Scottish Rite Freemasonry. 

 Enjoy a self-guided tour of this magnificent building. Local Scottish Rite Brothers will be stationed in many of the rooms to answer questions and add information about the room.   While at the Scottish Rite enjoy a buffet lunch.

Indianapolis Zoo and Botanical Gardens

The 64-acre cageless zoo exhibits exotic animals in four different areas. Three are open in the Winter. The Oceans area features an aquarium, penguins, rays, sharks, eels, seals, walrus. In addition to the dolphin show in the pavilion guests are able to view the dolphins 17 feet under water in the viewing dome. The Deserts area features meerkats, snakes, lizards and birds. The Forests area features tiger, brown bear and gibbon. The Orangutan Center features the largest group of orangutans in North America.

Adjacent to the zoo is White River Gardens, a three-acre botanical garden. Admission is included with the zoo admission.
