INHA annually hosts the premier conference for long term care professional in our state. We are dedicated to making a difference in Long Term Care, Memory Care and Assisted Living by providing the best in education and training. Each year we strive to provide training that directly relates to changes in regulations, as well as key issues in today’s long-term care sector. INHA’s educational programs help providers maintain their professional licensure and also provides them the opportunity to network with other providers. We give each participant the opportunity to learn about new research and developments in caring for an aging population.

Every summer at INHA’s conference professionals in long term care come together to participate in active learning; to engage in important discussions, and to hear from outstanding presenters who offer abroad range of expertise within the profession. Participants will walk away with ready-to-use information, ideas and best practices that will challenge and inspire them.

Anabelle Locsin has worked in the nursing profession for 46 years with experience in developing geriatric programs.  Dr. Locsin has received recognition as Florida Nurse of the Year and RN of the year from the Florida Health Care Association.  She is a speaker in regional, state, national and international conferences.  Her experiences allow her to offer a knowledge- based approach to care in the areas of LTC rules and regulations, LTC educational program development and implementation and Quality assurance and performance improvement QAPI).


Course Description:
This course will focus QAPI Federal regulations and the importance of QAPI in Long Term Care.  The session will continue with discussion on the five elements of QAPI and the guiding principle behind quality assurance and performance improvements.  There will be a breakdown of the five elements in detail as well as the ongoing training requirements.

The Fun Theory:  Transforming Dementia Care Through Person-based Intervention


Presented By:
Juliet P. Kerlin, Gerontologist


Since 2001, Juliet Kerlin has developed and managed programs focusing on the needs of older-adults.  As the Director of Research and Program Partnerships at It’s Never 2 Late (iN2L), she initiates research projects that validate the benefits of engagement technology for frail older adults and identifies funding sources that provide long-term care communities access to adaptive technology.  Juliet holds a Master’s degree in Gerontology and has served on the organizing committee of the Leading Age Hackfest, as well as the advisory board of the Dementia Action Alliance and the Board of Directors of a Little Help.


Course Description:
Senior living professionals are looking to improve clinical and quality of life outcomes for residents.   Engagement technology provides activity and rehab professionals with opportunities to engage and care for residents undergoing cognitive decline by focusing on their strengths and interests and by encouraging creativity, self-expression and continued personal development.  Technology that engages residents through person-centered experiences allows staff to embrace the belief that will-being encompasses all the dimensions of personhood-mind, body and spirit.

Eleisha Wilkes is a Registered Nurse with over fifteen years of experience in long term care. She has served as a Director of Nursing, Case Manager and Resident Assessment Coordinator with extensive responsibility and success in driving QA in the areas of person centered assessment and care planning through effective systems, staff development, and interdisciplinary team collaboration.


Course Description:
This course will focus on integrating Phase 2 Requirements of Participation for behavioral health care into practice, assessing and applying dementia stages to care plan practical individualized interventions to attain/maintain the highest level of practicable well-being for residents, and providing non-pharmacological approaches in dementia care and behavioral health.

RSC-1:  Rewrite of Reimbursement Model for Therapy

Mark graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences.  He earned academic distinctions that included graduating with High Honors and he received the Ray M Patterson Award for Scholastic Achievement and the Stanley V. Paris and Catherine E Patla Award for Excellence in Manual Therapy. Professionally, Mark has been a licensed Physical Therapist for over 14 years. His 14-year career includes serving in rehabilitation management positions. His experience ranges the full spectrum of patient care and management from Skilled Nursing Facilities to Outpatient Clinics.  Mark currently serves as the Regional Coordinator for the National Association of Rehabilitation Providers and Agencies for the Southeastern United States and is a member of the APTA.

He is an avid supporter of Second Wind Dreams, aninternational nonprofit that helps aging seniors realize lifelong dreams. Prior to joining Optima, Aaronserved as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Homecare Homebase, as Vice President ofSales and Marketing at HealthMEDX and as Vice President at HealthPort.


Course Description:
This course will focus on the proposed changes from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on the reimbursement model for therapy.  A discussion on the proposed rule changes that could occur in both the Resource Utilization Group (RUG) system and a rewrite of how CMS will reimburse for therapy services.  RCS-1 as it is currently written, would have significant changes to the determination of clinical categories and functional levels as well as how therapy services are incentivized.  There will be more discussion on the fact that RCS-1 is still in draft form, it is time for all providers to start thinking about the implications of the notice.

Participants will receive a Certificate for hours earned. The sign-in and sign-out sheets will be in your individual packets and you must turn each sign-in and sign-out sheet daily following each session. There will be a representative at the desk outside the session to collect the individual sheets. If you leave prior to the end of the session you will only receive hours for the time you were in each session.

Cancellations received on or before June 1, 2016, will be refunded minus a $100.00 administrative fee. Refunds will not be issued after the cancellation deadline. Refunds or credits will not be made on no-shows. You can substitute someone, but it will have to be for the entire conference. One substitution per registrant.
