3 CEs for Psychologists, Social Workers, and Professional Counselors
We are currently experiencing one of the worst public health crises, the Coronavirus Pandemic of 2020, creating unprecedented challenges for clients and therapists. A panel of mental health experts will share clinical examples of teens, adults, minority parents, and seniors, using insights from Inner Humanism psychotherapy to support their clients’ self-caretaking motives to make choices that protect themselves and others, and the compassionate interventions the panelists use to help their clients accept and mourn the significant losses brought on by the pandemic. The discussion also looks at the complexities therapists face in treating clients during a pandemic. Topics include the importance of therapists striving to regulate their personal feelings and reactions when clients are not in a place to be able to discuss and explore their choices or be open to intervention when they are engaging in risky behaviors, and therapists must constructively mourn these personal losses in the service of maintaining the treatment alliance.
