Discussion will also include the “power” of encouragement and “filling your child’s tank” as a means to build and strengthen your relationship with your child.

Session 2 Managing Challenging Behavior: Play as a Powerful Parenting Practice - This session will focus on tips for playing with your child, how to help your child learn to make friends and using positive comments to encourage positive behavior.

Session 3 Managing Challenging Behavior: Determining the Meaning of Behavior - This session will focus on looking at why children do what they do, understanding the meaning of behavior, making expectations clear and developing household rules.

Session 4 Managing Challenging Behavior: Teaching Children What to Do - This session will focus on the concept of using emotional vocabulary and teaching the children to use it too. And, we will conclude with an example of how to teach children to control anger and handle disappointment using an evidence based technique.

Session 5 Managing Challenging Behavior: Strategies to Promote Positive Behavior - This session will focus on knowing what is reasonable to expect of the children, using logical consequences for challenging behaviors and introducing prevention strategies that work for many typical situations for families.

We will look at how families can identify that meaning and develop a plan to address the behaviors, and share a tool that will help in the creation of the family plan.
