This seminar, presented by Thea Gallagher, Psy.D., clinic director at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA) in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, will explore the latest research and treatment modalities for obsessive-compulsive Disorder (OCD). Since the founding of the Center for Treatment and Study of Anxiety in 1979, OCD has been a specialty and many of the state-of-the-art treatments for OCD have been developed at the Center. This presentation will discuss the diagnosis of OCD in the context of other influential factors, risk factors for treatment refractory OCD and introduce various assessment tools and treatment recommendations for OCD.

At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Define obsessions and compulsions and review DSM-5 criteria for OCD
  • Discuss other considerations in making diagnosis (cultural factors, differential diagnosis)
  • Discuss risk factors for treatment refractory OCD and how to assess
  • Discuss recommendations for OCD assessment method and structure
  • Introduce the Y-BOCS, OCI-R, BABS, and DIAMOND
  • Discuss administration and scoring conventions of the YBOCS, OCI-R, BABS, and DIAMOND
  • Review session one of Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy for OCD

Featured Presenter: 

Thea Gallagher, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist and the clinic director at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA) in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She currently coordinates the OCD treatment study and is a study therapist. Dr. Gallagher specializes in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD, Exposure and Response (Ritual) Prevention (EX/RP) for OCD, and cognitive-behavioral treatments for social anxiety, panic disorder, specific phobias, and generalized anxiety. Dr. Gallagher completed her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Professional Continuing Education Credits:

An important message about CEUs:  Brook Lane seminars are approved for continuing education credits as an entire event.  P ARTIAL CREDIT WILL NOT BE AWARDED.  To assure that you receive continuing education credit, you must be on time and complete the entire seminar.

Counselors/Therapists:  Brook Lane Health Services has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP TM) # 5452. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Brook Lane solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.  This program will provide 6 clock hours; partial credit will not be awarded.

Social Workers:  Brook Lane Health Services is an approved sponsor of the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners for continuing education credits for licensed social workers in Maryland.  This program will provide 6.0 credit hours of Category I continuing education; partial credit will not be awarded.   

Psychologists:  The Maryland State Board of Examiners for Psychologists will accept continuing education hours provided by Brook Lane, an approved CE sponsor by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.

Other Healthcare Professionals and Attendees:  A certificate of completion noting the number of educational/contact hours will be provided for other disciplines to allow attendees to apply for CE credit as an individual.

 Seminar Fee:  $109.00

(Fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and CEUs)

CANCELLATION POLICY:  A $10 processing fee will apply for all cancellations. To receive a refund, cancellations must be made in writing and received no later than one week prior to the seminar. No refunds/credits will be made after the one-week date or for no shows on the day of the program.
