Pornography and Sexual Addiction

Jennifer Weeks, certified sex addiction therapist, will provide an understanding of complexities of pornography and sexual addiction. Attendees will learn the diagnostic criteria for sexual addiction, common behaviors and problems encountered by sex addicts, strategies for eliminating problem sexual behavior and how to identify and understand Addiction Interaction Disorder. The relationship between sexual addiction and early trauma survival will be reviewed along with managing and pacing recovery in multiple related areas such as behavioral (addictions) and emotional/relationship (intimacy problems). Discussion will include a gender based model of healing that is most commonly utilized in treatment settings, both outpatient and residential.

At the conclusion of the seminar, attendees should be able to:

  • Discuss current research on pornography, sexual addiction and compulsivity
  • Explain the differences between non-problematic viewing of pornography vs. pathological behavior
  • Outline the criteria for pornography addiction
  • List 3 ways sexual addiction and substance use disorders interact
  • Identify “problem” sexual behavior vs. addictions
  • Discuss digital technology and how it can escalate addictive behavior patterns

Presenter:  Jennifer Weeks, PhD, LPC, CAADC, CSAT-S, CMAT is the founder and director of Sexual Addiction Treatment Services (SATS) in Bethlehem and Plymouth Meeting, PA.  She is a certified advanced alcohol and drug counselor and certified sex addiction therapist supervisor with over twelve years of experience in the treatment of sexual disorders.  Dr. Weeks’ areas of expertise include substance abuse, sexual addiction, compulsivity, trauma and addiction, women’s issues and domestic violence.  She is also the author of the book The New Age of Sexual Education: How to Talk to your Teen about Cybersex and Pornography in the Digital Age.  Dr. Weeks earned her doctor of philosophy in psychology from the University of Georgia.

Seminar Fee:  $119.00 

Cancellation Policy: A $10.00 processing fee applies to all cancellations. To receive a refund (less the $10.00 cancellation fee), cancellations must be made in writing and received no later than one week prior to the seminar. After that date, no refunds will be made.

Continuing Education Credits

Maryland Social Workers: Brook Lane is an approved sponsor of the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners for continuing education credits for licensed social workers in Maryland. Brook Lane is solely responsible for all aspects of the Program. This program will provide 6.0 credit hours of Category 1 continuing education; partial credit will not be awarded.

Maryland Psychologists: The Maryland State Board of Examiners for Psychologists will accept continuing education hours provided by Brook Lane, an approved CE sponsor by the Maryland State Board of Social Worker Examiners; partial credit will not be awarded.

Counselors/Therapists (LCPC): Brook Lane has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5452. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Brook Lane is solely responsible for all aspects of the program. This program will provide 6 clock hours; partial credit will not be awarded.

Other Professionals: A certificate of completion noting the number of educational/contact hours will be provided.
