StorySki 2019 at Mad River Glen Ski Area

Dear Friends of Stark Mountain,

The Stark Mountain Foundation will be sponsoring a childrens StorySki and Scavenger Hunt at Mad River Glen Ski Area on Saturday February 23, 2019 from 10:30 to 2:30.

Registration begins at 10.30AM at the Birdcage lodge.

The scavenger hunt  is open to skiers age 3 to 8 and will take place on the Birdland Trails, beginning at the Kent Thomas Nature Center and ending at the Birdcage.  The StorySki itself will be in place at Mad River Glen from February 16 through March 3, 2019 and can be enjoyed by all ages.

The StorySki is based on the idea of the StoryWalk, a project that originated in Montpelier at the Kellogg-Hubbard library and has spread throughout the world. Laminated pages from a children's book are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you're directed to the next page in the story. It was created as a way for children to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time.

The StorySki will feature “I Wish it Would Snow!” a picture book written and illustrated by Stark Mountain Foundation board member Sarah Dillard and published by Simon & Schuster. The book is about a bunny who wishes for snow, is at first overwhelmed by it, then finally relishes it, only to have winter end. Sarah Dillard is the author and illustrator of several books, including the Mouse Scout Series and the Extraordinary Warren books. She lives near the base of Mad River Glen.

“I Wish it Would Snow!” came about through my love of Stark Mountain,” Dillard says. “It is exciting and gratifying to be able to share the book with readers and skiers on the very mountain that inspired it.” Learn more about Sarah Dillard at www.sarahdillard.com.
