*MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS - VETERANS, FAMILY PTSD    Pete Sulack DC   2 HOURS
The toxic, chronic stress and physiological adaptations that result from trauma can negatively influence brain development and attachment systems, and can greatly impact individuals and societies’ health and well-being. This CE course draws on research and clinical practice to show how terror, negative emotions, and social isolation are at the core of reshaping both the brain and body. New insights into the human survival instinct explains why traumatized people experience incomprehensible and often uncontrollable anxiety, numbing (physical disassociation and medication with opioids), and excessive rage. It will also show how trauma affects theses patients’ capacity to concentrate, to remember, to form trusting relationships; and why they often develop chronic illness and disease. Informed chiropractic care can address and mitigate HPA axis dysfunction found in trauma survivors.

  • Participants will learn how trauma affects the body, mind, and brain, and how individuals respond to the fear and terror that accompanies trauma.
  • Participants will identify how trauma impacts thinking, feelings, self-regulation, resiliency, and the victim’s ability to differentiate between danger and safety.
  • Participants will explore the long-term consequences of adverse childhood experiences, the power of diagnosis in capturing the reality of these experiences, and how early experiences of exploitation can alter future relationships for patients.
  • Participants will outline the underlying principles that guide trauma healing practices.
  • Participants will learn how EMDR and aural acupoint therapy is used to help victims revisit their traumatic pasts without being retraumatized.
  • Participants will define how chiropractic can help trauma survivors.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to review clinical case examples and scientific studies that provide insight into traumatic experiences and novel therapeutic approaches.

*CLINICAL RECORD KEEPING  AND DOCUMENTATION    Angel Tribuno DC  4 HOURS
 Pr
ovider with current outcome assessment guidelines concerning documentation; physician quality reporting, compliance with prescribed treatment plans and documentation of medically necessary care per Medicare parameters. Advanced focused support for evaluation and case management specific record keeping and documentation for patient case records will be reviewed in detail.  This enhanced and advanced clinical documentation program will allow chiropractic healthcare providers to have a credible systematic approach to supporting their documentation in all portions of a healthcare record that includes and is not limited to the dimension of quality control.  These dimensions are: 1) the structure, which represents the attributes of settings where care is delivered; 2) the process, or whether or not good healthcare practices are followed; and 3) the outcome, which is the impact of the care on health status.

  • Accurately apply diagnosis code utilizing ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Identify the importance of reporting code assignment correctly and the subsequent impact.
  • Documentation compliance that confirm the true and actual facts of the patient clinical case.
  • Pre-existing conditions verses acute health care issues v. chronic exacerbations and the documentation of the same.
  • Essential health benefits guidelines and the documentation of restorative medically necessary care verses non- medically necessary care.

*OPIOD ADDICTION & OPIOD USE DISORDER    Pete Sulack DC     2 HOURS
Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) is quickly becoming the hottest topic in healthcare public policy. More than a third of Americans use opioids, and 11.5 million of them misuse or abuse the drug. Tragically, more than 20,000 people died in 2015 due to opioid overdose. Over a ten-year period, the opioid death rate quadrupled in direct proportion to the number of prescriptions. Currently, almost every governmental and healthcare group on the planet is working to combat this problem. Solutions range from prescription limits to equipping all first responders with Narcan™. However, the underappreciated issue (and opportunity for chiropractors) is that opioids are most frequently prescribed for chronic non-cancer pain, primarily spinal pain. Prescribing a chemical does not adequately address that problem. While the opioid crisis is disastrous, there is no greater opportunity for the Chiropractic profession to showcase our effectiveness for managing pain. Policy makers from all backgrounds are desperately searching for help in combating this epidemic, and chiropractors offer a valuable contribution toward prevention and management.

  • Participants will explore the neuroscience behind brain structure, pain pathway, and the physiology of Opioid addiction.
  • Participants will examine proven, effective techniques for decreasing cravings and improving decision making among those using and/or addicted to opioids.
  • Participants will review clinical case examples and scientific studies that provide insight into Opioid addiction.
  • Participants will learn how chiropractic (proprioception), thought process, and adaptogens directly restore the negative physiological effects of Opioid addiction and pain pathways.
  • Participants will Identify the most effective clinical treatment strategies and learn how to incorporate those strategies into clinical practice.
