Hoarding Treatment: Options and Outcomes for Older Adults 

Hoarding Disorder was added to the DSM-V in 2013, but agencies and communities continue to struggle to help people with the mental health disorder. This conference will share information on evidence-based treatment options for people who hoard, local responses to hoarding in the community, and available resources. Preconference roundtable (ALLOHA) is 4/25.

Keynote Speaker

CATHERINE R. AYERS, PHD, ABPP

Catherine Ayers is the Division Director of the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) La Jolla MentalHealth Outpatient Clinics, Assistant Professor in the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Department of Psychiatry, and faculty member in the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology.Her research is focused on treatment outcomes for geriatric hoarding disorder and the neuropsychiatric characterization of hoarding disorder in late life. Her research on psychotherapy for geriatric hoarding disorder has been funded by the International OCD Foundation. She received a Career Development Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs entitled “Treatment of Late Life Hoarding”. Dr.Ayers has 5 active research investigations at the VA and UCSD and has recently received a CSR&D grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs entitled “Cognitive Rehabilitation and Exposure Therapy for Veterans with Hoarding Disorder.”

Dr. Ayers is licensed by the state of California with clinical privileges at the VASDHS. She is the Program Director of the VASDHS Anxiety Disorders Clinic where she oversees the clinic and supervises residents, practicum students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows.
