Mental Health First Aid Training 

The City of Philadelphia wants to ensure all citizens are equipped to help individuals who maybe experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. Mental Health First Aid training teaches one how to identity, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This 8-hour training is led by behavioral health expert and St. Martin's parishioner, Anita Kinsley.

What it covers:

  • Common signs and symptomsof mental illness.
  • Common signs and symptomsof substance use.
  • How to interact with a personin crisis.
  • How to connect the personwith help.
  • NEW: How to administer naloxonein the event of an opioid overdose.

The course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:

  • Assess for risk of suicide or harm
  • Listen nonjudgmentally
  • Give reassurance and information
  • Encourage appropriate professional help
  • Encourage self-help and othersupport strategies

About our instructor

Anita Kinsley headshot

Anita Kinsley has worked in behavioral health for nearly 40 years. Her early experience includes residential services and case management. In recent years Anita was the director of suburban sevices for Mental Health Partners. Currently Anita is the director of training for Northeast Treatment Centers. Teaching is Anita's passion as is advocacy for individuals with behavioral health challenges.
