Group Music Therapy Ages 13 and older - Jan 2020

This is group music therapy taught by Amanda Neira, MMT, MT-BC Founder of Coachella Valley Music Therapy. Open to children with autism and other developmental disabilities and siblings and siblings ages 13 yrs and older. Parents aren’t required to be there unless the students need extra assistance. $10 per month for two classes.

With its strong impact on the emotions, it has been suggested that music, applied as music therapy, can help children with autism to regulate stress so that they can calm down. Music helps the body recover from states of tension and some experts believe music therapy has a strong impact on the nervous system, on the brain, and on the cognitive functions of children with autism.  This treatment can help a child with autism improve connections in their brain using a variety of techniques. Dancing, singing, and playing instruments can all improve motor functions and emotional regulation. Listening to certain types of music and interacting in music therapy groups can improve communication and social skills.
