"Mitigating Red Tide"
We all know that red tide has seriously affected our beautiful gulf waters, killing fish, causing respiratory impacts and damaging the tourist industry.
In response, Mote Marine Laboratories established a Red Tide Institute in October 2018.The institute is focused on studying and testing Florida red tide mitigation and control technologies to improve quality of life for coastal communities affected by these challenging harmful algal blooms.
Dr. Heil joined Mote Marine Laboratories In January 2019, as Director of the Red Tide Institute and is applying her decades of laboratory and field experience studying K. brevis and other species of harmful algae.
