John Freer picLarge mature companies are constantly on the lookout for that next disruptive technology.  Many have established venture capital arms to invest in start-ups that are working on bleeding edge technologies that could change the game, and that align with the company’s strategy for its future.

John Freer '99, General Electric Global Research will talk about GE’s approach to Corporate Venture Capital, and provide insight into the processes and criteria GE uses to decide who to invest in, for what purpose, and what some of the recent outcomes have been.

*All students are required to pre-register with a $10 cash deposit at Pitts Rm 4104. Students not pre-registered with a $10 deposit, will be charged a $10 nonrefundable fee at the door. Suggested student attire is business wear. If pre-registered students do not attend the meeting and fail to cancel their registration by the deadline, their deposit will not be refunded.

The Entrepreneurs' Breakfast Group (formerly known as SIG), is a university-community collaborative sponsored by the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship, located in the Lally School of Management & Technology. The group serves as a nexus for young innovators and researchers to engage with business leaders and seasoned entrepreneurs to exchange ideas, discuss emerging research, and stay informed of current strategic and global trends. The group has over 400 business members, with chapters in Albany, NY and the Bay Area, CA.

The Paul J. '69 and Kathleen M. Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship (SCTE), established in 1988, helps foster new generations of entrepreneurs through outreach programs, education and research. Centered in Rensselaer’s Lally School of Management & Technology, the Severino Center lies at the core of Lally’s commitment to Entrepreneurship. The mission of the SCTE is to integrate educational and research programs by exposing every Rensselaer student to the practices and principles of entrepreneurship, to infuse the fundamentals of entrepreneurship throughout the Rensselaer curriculum, and to extend the leadership and national prominence of Rensselaer in technological entrepreneurship.
