Grant Writing and Funding for Nonprofits

Deciding on whom to ask for funding is an important decision every nonprofit organization must repeatedly make over the course of its lifespan.  More importantly, understanding the do’s & don’ts of grant writing often determines whether the organization will be successful when they make the financial request for support.  Join us for an upcoming workshop on Grant Writing and Funding for Non-Profits, October 5th at the New Buffalo Public Library, 33 N. Thompson St., New Buffalo, MI.

Sponsored by SCORE Kalamazoo/SW Michigan, Berrien Community Foundation and The Pokagon Fund, the workshop will provide attendees an opportunity to hear a donor’s recommendations on ways to improve their process and strategy to submit more effective funding requests.

Led by Lisa Cripps-Downey, President, and Susan Matheny, Program Officer of the Berrien Community Foundation, the first session will share essential tips on: *Developing and communicating to your funders a Case for Giving; and,  *Becoming Grant Ready

The workshop will also include an interactive session during which the Request for Proposal (RFP) process will be discussed by foundation executives:  Lisa Cripps-Downey, Susan Matheny and Janet Cocciarelli, Executive Director, The Pokagon Fund.  They will explain the RFP process from the funders’ perspective, including the evaluation process, the proposal letter, and donor recognition.

Lisa Cripps-Downey previously held positions at nonprofit organizations, including Executive Director of the Frederick S. Upton Foundation and Director of Business Innovation for the United Way of Southwest Michigan.

Janet Cocciarelli joined The Pokagon Fund in 2015. Her past experience includes managing philanthropic grant-making for the Applied Materials’ Foundation and Executive Director of the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum.
