Elastomers are outstanding in their ability to repeatedly endure large deformations, and they are often applied where fatigue performance is critical. Their macromolecular structure gives rise to unique behaviors, and so appropriately specialized experimental methods are needed to characterize, analyze, and design for durability. This course will give you powerful approaches to anticipate, diagnose and solve fatigue-related issues. Presented live online, in a multi-day workshop, this training gives you a deep-dive, hands-on experience in how to solve durability issues.

  • Self-heating in rubber
  • Tearing energy
  • Characterizing strength of rubber
  • The fatigue threshold
  • Strategic considerations in fatigue testing
  • Characterizing Fatigue behavior of individual cracks – fully relaxing cycles
  • Characterizing Fatigue behavior – nonrelaxing cycles and strain crystallization
  • Crack nucleation, S-N curves, Continuum Damage
  • Characterizing crack precursor size
  • Rubber’s Fatigue Design Envelope

Format

The course features live lectures and exercises focused on specifying, executing and interpreting numerical simulations of fatigue behavior. This course is a LIVE training event and link to the presentation of each class will be made available to registrants for their reference/review. These links will be active for seven days after the class date so attendees will have time to make up classes they may not be able to attend live.

Instructor
Thomas G. Ebbott, Ph.D. is a tire industry veteran known for his leadership in driving advances in modeling, simulation and workflows across a global organization.  He joined Endurica in 2022 after a 35-year career at Goodyear. While at Goodyear, he held various technical and leadership positions with experience in product development, modeling and simulation, and materials characterization. Tom was a major contributor to the technical partnership between Goodyear and Sandia National Laboratories. He also enjoyed a two-year assignment at Goodyear’s technical center in Luxembourg as the Manager of Computational Mechanics. He has received numerous awards for his scientific contributions including 4 Superior Paper awards from the Tire Society. Tom's published works include topics such as fracture mechanics and crack growth in rubber;  fatigue of cord-rubber composites; non-linear viscoelasticity and constitutive modeling; tire rolling resistance and temperature prediction..

Endurica LLC reserves the right to cancel a scheduled training course if the minimum class size is not met. In the event of a cancellation, Endurica LLC will make every attempt to notify registered participants within five working days. Payment made for a canceled course will be refunded in full or applied to another scheduled training course.

Participant cancellations must be received at least 10 working days in advance. Registrations canceled by participants less than 10 working days before the training course begins are subject to a 50% cancellation charge. For cancellations occurring on the first day of a scheduled training course, and for "no shows," the full tuition fee is non-refundable.
